What happens when my fixed energy tariff ends?

When your fixed tariff ends, you will move to a Standard Variable Tariff (SVT). This may currently be cheaper than fixed deals, and Homebox will monitor the market to secure a better rate when available.

When your fixed-rate energy tariff ends, your prices are no longer locked. Energy suppliers will usually move you onto a Standard Variable Tariff (SVT), where prices can go up or down depending on the market.

Why am I being moved to a Standard Variable Tariff?

The energy market is currently unstable, with wholesale prices increasing. This means most fixed-rate deals available right now are not good value.

To help you avoid overpaying, Homebox will move your account to a Standard Variable Tariff with our supplier partner.

Key benefit:
Right now, SVT rates are often cheaper than fixed tariffs. For an average 3-bedroom home, this could be around £60 less per month compared to current fixed deals.

Will my energy prices change on an SVT?

Yes. Unlike a fixed tariff, SVT prices can change.

  • Prices are expected to increase later in the year
  • Changes usually happen in line with market conditions and price cap updates

Note: While prices may rise, staying on SVT now avoids locking into higher fixed rates too early.

What is Homebox doing to help?

Homebox monitors the energy market daily.

Our goal is to secure a better fixed deal for you at the right time by:

  • Waiting for prices to stabilise
  • Using our full customer portfolio to negotiate stronger rates
  • Moving you to a new fixed tariff when it becomes cost-effective

Tip: You do not need to take action. We will notify you as soon as a better deal is available.

Why is there a service fee?

Energy suppliers usually pay Homebox a commission when we arrange fixed tariffs. However, SVTs do not include commission.

To continue managing your account and negotiating better deals, a small service fee is applied:

  • 50p per day, per fuel (gas and electricity charged separately)

This allows us to:

  • Remain independent
  • Focus on finding the best deal for you
  • Avoid recommending tariffs based on commission

What are my options?

You can choose how you would like to proceed:

Option 1: Stay with Homebox (Opt-in)

  • We move you to the SVT
  • We monitor the market for you
  • We switch you to a better deal when available
  • Service fee applies

Option 2: Manage your own energy (Opt-out)

  • You arrange your own tariff directly with a supplier
  • No service fee
  • Your account will move to your supplier’s default tariff

Important: If you opt out, Homebox will no longer manage your energy or negotiate deals on your behalf.
