Why can’t I use my Revolut card or account for Direct Debits?

Revolut cannot always be used for UK Direct Debits. This is because Revolut only supports Direct Debits with certain UK and EU bank details.

If you are trying to set up a Direct Debit with Homebox using Revolut and it is not working, this is usually due to how Revolut Direct Debits operate.

Why Revolut Direct Debits may not work

Revolut’s Direct Debit system only supports merchants within the UK or Europe and requires specific local bank details. These details must match the country where the merchant is based.

For UK Direct Debits, this means:

  • The account must have a UK sort code and account number

  • The merchant must be a UK-based company

  • The bank must allow UK Direct Debits on that account

If your Revolut account does not fully meet these requirements, the Direct Debit cannot be set up.

Living outside the UK

If you live outside the UK, this can cause additional issues. Even if your Revolut account shows UK bank details, your residency status may mean Revolut does not allow UK Direct Debits to be processed.

This is a restriction set by Revolut, not by Homebox.

Using a Revolut card instead

Revolut cards cannot be used for Direct Debits. Direct Debits are different from card payments and must be set up using bank account details, not a debit card.

Note: A debit card payment is a one-off or recurring card charge. A Direct Debit is an agreement that allows a company to collect payments automatically from your bank account.

What you can do instead

To avoid payment issues, we recommend using:

  • A UK high street bank account

  • A UK digital bank that supports Direct Debits, such as Monzo or Starling

These accounts are fully compatible with UK Direct Debits and work smoothly with Homebox.

Tip: If you are new to the UK, many digital banks allow you to open an account quickly using your phone.
