Why have I been charged for my first month’s bills?

We charge for your bills in advance, meaning your first payment covers the 30-day period from the start of your tenancy. This ensures your utilities and services are ready to go from day one. This article explains how the first payment works, provides an example for clarity, and explains how you can change your payment date if needed.

Understanding your first month’s charges

When you move into your new home, we set up your utility services right away. To ensure there’s no interruption, we take payment for your first month’s bills in advance.

1. Why is payment taken in advance?

We charge in advance to cover the cost of your utilities for the upcoming 30 days from the start of your tenancy. This ensures that all services, such as electricity, water, and broadband (if applicable), remain active without disruption.

2. Example of how it works

To give you a clearer idea, here’s an example:

  • Tenancy start date: 10 October
  • Payment date: 12 October
  • Period covered: 10 October to 9 November

💡 Did you know? Even if you pay a couple of days after your tenancy starts, your payment still covers the first 30 days from the tenancy start date.

3. Can I change my payment date?

Yes. If the current payment date doesn’t work for you, we’re happy to adjust it. Simply get in touch with our support team to let us know your preferred date, and we’ll make the change.

👉 Tip: Changing your payment date may mean a pro-rata adjustment to align with your new billing period.
