How does water billing work?
Water bills are usually issued once or twice a year by your water supplier, but Homebox helps you pay monthly. We estimate your usage to set your payments and adjust them once supplier bills arrive.
How water billing works
Most UK water suppliers issue bills for longer periods; annually, six-monthly, or quarterly — depending on your region and supplier.
Even though your supplier might bill less frequently, Homebox helps you manage your payments by spreading the cost into equal monthly amounts, so your bills stay predictable.
📘 Example:
If your supplier bills you once a year, Homebox divides your total into 12 monthly payments to make budgeting easier.
Billing periods explained
-
Annual bill: One bill per year, covering 12 months of water use.
-
Six-monthly bill: Two bills per year, covering 6 months each.
-
Quarterly bill: Four bills per year, covering 3 months each.
The billing period will depend on your local supplier, such as Thames Water, Yorkshire Water, or Welsh Water.
How Homebox manages your water payments
When you join Homebox, we set up your water payments based on estimated usage.
This estimate is calculated from:
-
The number of people in your home
-
The property type (flat, house, shared property)
-
Typical usage for similar homes in your region
Once we receive actual bills from your supplier, our team:
-
Reviews the charges
-
Compares them with your estimated payments
-
Adjusts your monthly payments to match your real usage going forward
This helps make sure you’re always paying the right amount — not too much or too little.
⚠️ Note: If your usage changes (for example, more people move in or you use more water in summer), your payments may be updated to reflect this.
Keeping your bills accurate
You can view your current water payments and supplier details anytime in your Homebox Dashboard.
If you receive a new bill directly from your water supplier, please upload it to your Dashboard so we can review and update your plan.
