I have a smart meter, do I need to send meter readings?

Yes. Even if you have a smart meter, you still need to upload your meter readings to your Homebox Dashboard so we can monitor your usage and keep your bills accurate.

Why you still need to send readings

Smart meters automatically send readings to your energy supplier — but not always to Homebox.
We use your readings to:

  • Check your energy usage each month

  • Make sure supplier bills match your actual consumption

  • Adjust your payments if your usage changes

  • Spot any errors or sudden increases early

📘 Tip: Uploading a reading once a month keeps your account fully up to date and helps us make sure you don't overpay.


How to upload your smart meter readings

You can easily submit your readings through your Homebox Dashboard:

  1. Go to the Meter Readings section.

  2. Enter your current readings exactly as shown on your meter.

  3. Submit and you’re done — we’ll take it from there.


What if your smart meter isn’t sending readings automatically

Sometimes, smart meters stop communicating with the supplier network (known as going “dumb”).

If that happens, your supplier and Homebox won’t receive updates automatically, so manual readings are essential.

⚠️ Note: Always check your meter screen occasionally to make sure readings are changing. If they’re not, you might need to provide manual readings more often.
